Identify Your Material

Answer a few simple questions to identify any material.
We'll guide you through non-intrusive tests first, then optional destructive tests if needed.

How this material identification quiz works

Start with non-destructive checks: metal vs non-metal, magnetism, transparency, porosity, and flexibility. Each answer narrows the 121 materials in our database. If you are unsure, skip the question — we will not filter on it.

When a few matches remain, open the material page for bonding notes and recommended adhesive types. Then use Find Adhesive to pair two materials, or browse adhesive type guides.

Is this material a metal?

How to test:

Look at the material. Metals typically have a shiny, reflective surface and feel cold to touch. They are usually heavy for their size and make a ringing sound when tapped.
